Brit Decor: On the road / White Horse, Dorking

Lately it seems as though I'm away from dear home sweet home more often than not, but on the plus-side there are two major consolations; one, 'home' becomes even more precious, and two, I get to sample some #interiorforinspo hotel decor (and three, if I include zero house chores!).

On a recent working trip to Dorking in Surrey (UK) I grabbed a one night whistle-stop stay at the impressive White Horse Hotel, which proved to be a feast for the eyes, and my stomach. I thought I'd share my time there with you...

Whilst the quintessentially 'ye olde' 18th Century British monochrome exterior, complete with slightly wonky sash windows, is echoed indoors within pockets of carefully respected original architectural details, the interiors have been extensively re-designed to a high spec (£4 million if we're talking figures) to accommodate us style-savvy travellers.

My room immediately embraced me with a calm palette of oatmeal, heavenly pastel blue, forest green and warming tan leather,  adorned with on-point brass wall lights. Despite the very British setting, I couldn't help but feel, at times, as though I had been posted in a chic hotel in the heart of Stockholm or Paris, but my imagination always did run wild...

The design-led decor didn't end with my room - the ground floor restaurant, Deli and bar areas each offered their own unique bubble of unpretentious charm, again with a hint of 'Scandi' referenced throughout, and all delivered by some of the most welcoming hotel staff I have encountered in a while.

Brit Decor: Decorating with duvets / Three key looks for 2018

I've long been preaching about the merits of simple and uber-fast makeovers - not least because these are so much fun and good for the creative soul, without the threat of melting the bank balance.

In terms of bedroom decor, it's pretty much a given that the bed will be the focal point, if nothing else, because it's often the largest piece of furniture in the room! So it makes sense to start with bedding if you want to update your bedroom's current 'look' to be in-line with the trends.

I'm going to keep this feature simple by focussing on three key bedding looks; Textured / Peach Perfect / Foliage Fancy.

Textured
I have recently refreshed our master bedroom with subtle texture in mind, using a crisp white Catherine Lansfield Pom Pom duvet set from Yorkshire Linen paired with chalky grey pillowcases to help fuse the bedding with our grey wall mural. Pom Poms are a great way of adding a subtle three-dimensional texture to any fabric, and in white, these remind me of piped icing - delicious!

Peach Perfect
Pastels are here to stay in 2018, with an emphasis towards peach as a key hue to feast on. I see it as a continuation of the trend set by it's close relation, nude pink. Peach also looks great in washed linen fabrics (try H&M home for similar).

Foliage Fancy
Palm prints sprouted onto the fashion radar in 2017 and have literally exploded into a host of botanicals. Don't be afraid to stray away from traditional green prints - I'm currently swooning over the earthy toned 'cactus scene' bedding by Urban Outfitters (see below). Have fun mixing and matching leafy prints and colour-ways with this trend.

Do you see any of these three 'looks' landing on your bed this year?
