Brit Decor: Belgian Coastal Penthouse/ Vincent Van Duysen

I couldn't resist sharing these images of a truly indulgent example of minimalism created by talented Belgian designer, Vincent Van Duysen. What makes this duplex apartment extra-special is its privileged views of the Belgian coastline, making it a dream weekend retreat for its owners.

This project, completed in 2016, spanned over three years in total with the sole aim of creating a space in which the owners can relax, socialise, and enjoy the ocean views via the deliberate open plan layout.

As if the dreamy views of the coast weren't enough, Van Duysen, has cleverly incorporated echoes of the outside environment into the interior, with pale wooden flooring and the kitchen worktops reminiscent of sandy beaches, and a chalky neutral palette throughout.

There's also room for some Hygge with the large mininmal open fire in the open plan seating area - perfect for those cosy coastal nights!

Brit Decor: Autumnal Awe/ Seasonally Inspired Hues for All Year Round

After selling & finally vacating our beautiful cottage on Monday, we are currently living out of packing crates and suitcases at 'Hotel Mum & Dad' before we can move into our new home in just under two weeks.

It seems a little strange writing a blog post away from my faithful Scandi-style study back at the cottage, but I keep reminding myself that a brand new and exciting chapter is just around the corner, and one that I'll be sharing with you guys along the way...

In the meantime, I think it's been far too long since I last posted some #paletteperfection - and what better Season of the year to source a rich, intense and moody palette from nature itself? I've sought to bring the outdoors-in by sourcing today's incredible interiors and corresponding paint choices based on colours I can see around me - from fiery reds and oranges, blazingly bold yellows, to deeper more intense reds, greys, browns and mossy greens.

If ever you are stuck for colour choices in your own home, remember there's always a wealth of free inspiration outside your front door, whether it's an urban or rural setting, just take a step outside and start hue hunting!

Brit Decor: Shelter from the storm/ Icelandic rustic retreat!

So here's the setting; it's a cold winter's day on the south-west coast of Iceland with a brisk and biting sea breeze lapping against your home for the weekend aka this incredible ocean-facing contemporary barn. Sounds perfect, right?

Filled with iconic blonde woods, largely courtesy to sleek knot-free plywood panelling, which exude warmth and create a subtle glow throughout the interior, there's an essential and plentiful supply of relaxed linens and cosy textiles in every room of this holiday home.

There's a subtle Nordic influcence too, with refined doses of monochromatic silhouettes cut by sleek floor lamps and shades, and not forgetting the contrasting dark-wood kitchen, neatly nesteled into the main living space.

There's a lot of understatement in the overall styling of this home, which adds to calming interior and in turn this actually creates a powerful 'less is more' statement. Minimal fuss and maximum comfort is in abundance in this holiday rental cabin.

With an undeniably contempiorary rustic charm, this is about as good as it gets for a stylish Winter escape!
